Meet Summary - JP Fiset International

MEET REPORT – JP FISET

Last weekend 21 FMSC swimmers along with Coach Damian and Coach Alex, boarded the faithful Diversified bus to take part in the JP Fiset International meet in Edmonton. This year the competition was a lot higher calibre than it has been in the past so our kids were exposed to some very high level swimming which was awesome for them.

Some of the highlights were Gold medals for Josh Dow in the 200 back (which I believe was also a meet record) and for Evan Symons in the 50 back. Evan also picked up his 16 year old AGN time, earning his GOLD team cap! Josh also picked up 2 Silver medals in the 100 back and the 200 IM – way to go boys!

Daniel Joyce narrowly missed his first ever Age Group National time in the 50 breast swimming 33.11 seconds and missing it by 0.01 of a second ( 33.10). Hang in there Dan we know you will crack that time very soon !

Angus Bagnall continued to shine this weekend too picking up an Age Group National time in the 200 breast – the very first time he has swam this event in competition and despite his protests at being entered into it, he did an amazing job. Angus also had impressive time drops in most of his events.

On the girls side Hollie Symons had a very good race in her 200 fly and earned her first A time in that event – well done Hollie !

Joelle Young, once again had an amazing weekend and made finals in most of her events coming ‘oh so close’ to picking up a Bronze medal in the 200 IM. Jo also had multiple 4th placings in the breaststroke events.

Many other swimmers impressed us this weekend too and we saw a glimpse of great things to come from many of our up and coming swimming stars! Our youngest swimmers Declan Weavers, Hannah Bergman and Emily Cyr (all 10 year olds), really stepped up to the plate and showed they have what it takes to compete at the higher level with some great racing.

Our Men’s 15 & O relay team comprising of Josh, Daniel, Chris and Damian also came within a fingertip of a bronze medal in the 4 X 100 medley relay. This exciting race marked the end of the meet following which we were back on the bus and heading back to Fort Mac.

Out of 28 teams, we ended up 11th which was very impressive. Great job everyone.

Thanks also to our chaperones Lisa and Deanne for looking after us and keeping the kids well fed all weekend !
