AGE GROUP PROVINICIAL CHAMPS AND SEASON WRAP UP
By: Coach Alex - Jul. 14, 2010
ALBERTA AGE GROUP AND SENIOR PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Recently 15 FMSC swimmers headed off down route 63 to Edmonton to take part in the Alberta Age Group and Senior Provincial Championships.
We kick started the weekend with a light swim at the Kinsmen centre and then a team supper at Boston Pizza where all the swimmers, parents and coaches got together. Following a short pre-meet talk the swimmers were presented with their team shirts specially made for our 2010 Provincial Championship qualifiers !
The weekend of racing went really well and once we had the shuttling of swimmers back and forth worked out everyone settled in and had some great results. All the swimmers made at least one evening final whether it was an A or B final for the 14 and unders or an A, B or C final for the 15 and overs and there were plenty of best times too!
Our top medal winner for this meet was Josh Dow who scooped up 2 Gold in the 50 and 100 back; a silver in the 50 free and 2 bronze in the 100 free and 200 back – great swimming Josh! He was also the proud recipient of a Top 25 Swim Alberta Youth Recognition tee shirt in the 13/14 age group category – way to go !!
Other A finalist placings went to :
Jordan Dunn – 4th place in the 100 breast and 7th place in the 50 and 200 breast
Brodie Dransutavicius – 5th in the 100 fly; 9th in the 200 fly and 10th in the 200IM. Brodie also broke club records in the 100 free and the 50 free relay lead-off.
In other highlights Angus Bagnall pulled off a huge best time swim in the 200 back going on to win the B final and Hannah Katinas had some big time drops in all her races.
Congratulations to all of you for making it to the provincial level in your swimming this year. Just getting to go and be a part of this meet is a major achievement and we are very proud of you all !!
Best wishes and lots of luck to Josh, Jordan and Brodie who will be representing us at Age Group Nationals in Winnipeg later this month and again to Brodie who will be going onto Senior Nationals in Victoria.
Good luck also to Haley Hunter; Joelle Young; Hannah Katinas; Lochlan Weavers; Spencer Noseworthy and Mitchell Krassilowsky who will be swimming at the Alberta Summer Games in Peace River this month. We wish you all fast swimming and great fun – enjoy the experience, you deserve it !
We sadly say goodbye to swimmers Jose, Hannah and Keith this season and wish them all the very best in their new swim clubs. We will miss you all so very much.....
For everyone else, have a safe and wonderful summer and I am looking forward to an exciting new season and to seeing you all back on deck in the Fall
Alex
