Fort McMurray Swim Club Seniors swim well at Western Canadian Championships
This past weekend the three Senior Group members: Brodie Dransutavicius, Taylor Beaudry, and Destiny Noble flew to Saskatoon to compete in the Speedo Western Canadian Championships. The swimmers posted some great results with plenty of best times and solid racing. Brodie was the “star” of the weekend making FOUR senior national qualifying times, breaking NINE club records, and winning two SILVER medals.
Brodie made finals in everything that he swam but Coach Albert Burgund scratched him from two finals: the 400 IM where he had demolished the 30 year old club record by more than 11 seconds in prelims and the 100 breast so that he could focus on making some national qualifying times. The gamble paid off big time as Brodie made his first National qualifying time (NQT) on the first night in the 50 fly posting a 25.67 (a club record) and a short time later made his second NQT and winning the silver medal in the 100 backstroke in a blistering 56.28 seconds (also a club record). Special note that it was former Manta Braeden Newton that won the 100 back. Brodie’s third final on the first night was the 50 free in which he registered his third club record of the evening with a 23.73 – just shy of another NQT.
The second night of finals was an easy one: One swim – the 100 free which he swam in 51.24 – another NQT and another club record. The final night was tougher again but limited to two of Brodie’s favourite swims the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Butterfly. He went for broke in the 200 IM winning his second SILVER medal of the meet and clocking a brisk 2:05.17 for a NQT and a club record. An exhausted Brodie swam a best time in his second race – a 57.39
Overall a great weekend.
