Nine Fort McMurray Swim Club Mantas competed in the SPEEDO Alberta Long Course Age Group and Senior Championships held at the Tallisman Centre in Calgary. Jeffrey Alook, Spencer Barr, Katelyn Cachia, Josh Dow, Patrick Hammond, Kendra Hobenshield, Hannah Katinas, Breena Rusnell, and Joelle Young all competed . Every swimmer made it to finals and some to every final. Collectively they made 17 finals swims (excluding relays).
Top Eight finishers included Joelle Young with a 6th place in the 100 breast and a 5th place in her 200 breast, Hannah Katinas with an 8th place finish in the 50 breast, Kendra Hobenshield with 6th place finishes in the 50 and 200 back, and Josh Dow who was 4th in the 200 IM, won silver in the 50, 200, and 400 free, and took gold in the 100 free, 50, 100, 200 back – for an amazing 7 medal haul!
Josh broke three club age group records previously held by Olympian Mark Versfeld: the 100 free in a time of 1:01.91, the 100 back in a time of 1:09.40, and the 200 back in a time of 2:29.90. The 200 backstroke time also qualified Josh to attend the Canadian Age Group National Swim Meet being held in Montreal.
