New Provincial champions Olivia Cook (14) and Clive McKenzie (12) led the Fort McMurray contingent to impressive finishes at the Alberta Age Group Championships. Cook swam to gold in the 50m butterfly and the 100m Individual Medley (club record) while McKenzie finished first in the 100 IM. These two swimmers were not done there as they each reached the podium on a number of other occasions.
Olivia – silver – 50 free, 100 free (club record), 50 back, 100 fly
Bronze – 200 free
Clive – silver – 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 back
Bronze – 100 back, 200 back
Meagan Graves provided much excitement in the 50m (2nd) and 100m (3rd) breaststroke events breaking 2 club records along the way.
The girls 13/14 relay teams were also podium bound. They finished 2nd in all three relay events breaking the club record each time.
Taylor Beaudry achieved 3 new National Age Group qualifying (and Western Canadian Senior National) times in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events.
Krista Frederickson – qualified for finals in the 200 butterfly and placed in the top 10 in the 400 free and 800m freestyle events
Abi Clarke – qualified for finals in 50 free, 100 free, 50 breast and 100 breast
Destiny Noble – qualified for finals in 50 free
Alex Roberts – dominated her best times in backstroke and finishing just outside the finals
Jeffrey Alook – first ever Provincial championships and made finals in the 50 fly and 50 fly
Jose Rondon – first ever Provincial championships and placed 6th in the 200 IM for 10 & under boys
Patrick Hammond – first ever Provincial championships placed 6th in the boys 13/14 400 IM and made another final in the 50 back
Rayna Daly – qualified for finals in 50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke + 200IM
Tara Wright – who turned 11 years old just over a week ago and in her first Provincial Championships qualified for finals in the 50 breast

Jeffrey Alook, Rayna Daly and Clive McKenzie were each selected to Alberta Team North in the 11/12 age bracket to this weekend’s North South Dual Meet. They will be joined by coach Franz Albert Burgund who was also selected as part of the staff.
Olivia Cook was selected and will represent Alberta in April for a Dual meet against BC. Head Coach Rick Burton was also selected as part of the coaching staff.
NEXT UP:
Coach Burton will be taking 12 swimmers to Edmonton during spring break to train with Silvertide and Edmonton Keyano Swim Clubs’ top swimmers. This will be important to kick start the 2nd half of the season and prepare for the Olympic Trials
Danielle Newton and Olivia Cook will leave March 30 to attend the Canadian Olympic Trials in Montreal. These will be held at the 1976 Olympic Pool April 1 – 6.
